THE FOLLOW SHOW NOTES: EPISODE 1
Leap into crowdfunding with Marianna Sachse, Jackalo.

OUR FIRST EVER EPISODE YAY!
Welcome to the first-ever episode of The Follow Podcast where we follow the business journeys of today’s incredible change-makers, leading the way to a kinder planet.

We are super excited and honoured to launch our first episode where we are joined by the incredible, wise, honest and generous founder of Jackalo, Marianna Sachse.

HOW WE GOT HERE
The idea for this Podcast was originally an idea I had for a TV show where we would follow not only businesses and brands but the careers that these industries offer and what a true week in the life of these careers looks like.

MAKE CHANGE
Five years on, a lifestyle change, a move out of London and a step away from my exhilarating career in Advertising and Video Production, a conscious and personally more purposeful existence where learning, growing, supporting and giving back felt more in line with what we and the planet needs and so The Follow Podcast was born alongside the launch of the Sustainable Business Club.

FINDING MARIANNA SACHSE
Being a Podcast host although not a million miles away from Production is new to me. Especially being the other side of the camera or in this case mic, so when looking for the ideal guests it was important to me to find guests I could connect with as well as women who would be truly inspirational, authentic and offer something tangible to our listeners. I was so, so lucky to have found that in Marianna and her incredible business Jackalo.

“Jackalo is not another clothing brand. We are on a mission to do better, make better clothes, and change the way we buy and use children’s clothes for a better planet and a better world.”

It was also Marianna that sparked the idea for the SBC Book Club with her podcast book recommendation Leapfrog, The new revolution for women entrepreneurs, which is a brilliant guide for getting past your roadblocks and helps pave the way for growth and success.

"A must-read for any woman who has a great idea and the nagging thought that doors are closed to her; Molina Niño helps to blow them open." (Publishers Weekly)

SO WHO IS MARIANNA AND WHAT IS JACKALO?
Marianna is a talent, environmentalist, mum and businesswoman who took the leap into running a sustainable business a million miles away from her hometown in America and with two kids in tow. We talk frankly about how she began, challenges she faced and what’s important when running a sustainable business.

TAKEAWAYS
Marianna offers so many extra ideas on what makes up a sustainable business covering not just her gorgeous organic and ethically made play clothes for kids, or how she got off the ground, but how giving back and adding even more offerings to your customers such as the trade-up and full transparency can cement your brand and tell an even more compelling story.

CROWDFUNDING
Our focus area with Marianna is crowdfunding and we have the pleasure of hearing and finding out about how she funded her startup with the help of the ifundwomen.com platform, what made her choose this platform over Kickstarter or equity funding and why when 30% of crowdfunding campaigns fail, she thought this was the right one for her.

THE SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS BOOK CLUB
Marianna shares her recommended Book Leapfrog The new revolution for women entrepreneurs by Nathalie Molina Nino, where she learnt the importance of setting up a Mastermind group. An absolutely brilliant and truly revolutionary idea that I hadn’t heard of before, that helps you stay connected but also accountable with a core group of likeminded and equally supportive people in a similar position to yourself. Genius!

This resonated with me so much because it's one of the seeds which started the idea for the Sustainable Business Club Community and the Follow Podcast Series. We all know that running your own business can be lonely and really hard without someone on your wavelength to bounce ideas off, share stories, concerns, challenges, gains and goals all in a non-judgemental space, which is why the Sustainable Business Club was born and why the educational offering of each podcast episode is so important to me. So all in all an absolutely fantastic takeaway and something which I hope to implement locally as pocket parts of the SBC Community in the future.
